HITLER IN THE HOUSE Y'ALL!

So, the day after the inauguration, my wife, who’s a true blue Democrat, came to me and said, “Oh my God, did you see this video of Musk giving a Nazi salute at the inauguration?” She showed me the video on her phone: Musk places his hand on his heart, then thrusts his hand into the air, turns 180 degrees and makes the same gesture to the crowd behind him. No, he did not say, “Sieg Heil to Fuhrer Trump” but “Thank you, my heart goes out to you.” Of course, all the replays shown for the past three days don’t have the audio on so you can hear that.

I said to my wife, “So let me get this straight. You think that Musk, while preparing his speech that would be seen the world over, thought to himself, ‘I'm really going to blow everybody’s mind tonight and end my congrats to Donald with a couple of Nazi salutes .’ So the smartest guy on the planet intentionally set out to sabotage the most powerful guy on the planet’s biggest night in his life by feeding the Hitler fantasies of his haters?” Actually my reaction was not so articulate, but more like, “Really? What a bunch of bullshit.”

Musk is a proud, self-proclaimed autistic geek. He looks like a guy who works out, but all you have to do is view his manic bouncing around at Trump rallies to know that he has the bodily co-ordination of the Wizard of Oz Scarecrow. In high school, we would have called him “spastic.” His gesture was just a nerd’s way of saying, “I love you.” Or maybe he has a state-of-the-art bionic arm, and like Dr. Strangelove he can’t control his arm from springing into a Nazi salute.

At first, I thought this would just be some meme stuff shown in the left wing, social media Romper Rooms. And of course, joyless Joy Reid would go into high dugdeon over it. But then I noticed that some supposedly respectable outlets like Newsweek, Forbes, PuffPost had picked up the story. To top it all off, the US Senator from CT, Chris Murphy, asked Elise Stefanik during her confirmation hearing to be our UN representative, “What do you think of Elon Musk, perhaps the president’s most visible adviser, doing two Heil Hitler salutes last night at the president’s televised rally?” Finally, the Anti-Defamation League had to be the adult in the room and issued a statement: “It seems that [Musk] made an awkward gesture in a moment of enthusiasm, not a Nazi salute.” But leave it to AOC to take it to a higher level of asinine inanity when with a straight face she accused the antisemitism watchdog group of “defending a Heil Hitler salute” and said that the ADL “works for” President Trump and his allies.” “Just to be clear, you are defending a Heil Hitler salute that was performed and repeated for emphasis and clarity,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote in response to the ADL on X. And some Dems are talking about her running for president in 2028?! Excuse my French, but what a dumb ass.

A word of advice to my dear Dem friends: drop all the Hitler, neo-Nazi, fascist threat to democracy babble. It got no traction for you during the election and, in fact, probably hurt your chances. Musk was spot on when he said, "Frankly, they need better dirty tricks. The 'everyone is Hitler' attack is sooo tired." (BTW, do you think that if Musk wittingly decided to give a Nazi salute, that he would so vociferously deny it the next day?) And while you’re at it, along with your “dry January” regimen, go on a Trump diet for a couple of months at least. Break your TDS fever. You guys are truly obsessed with the man. I watched much of your convention last summer, and it’s not too much of an exaggeration to say that three-quarters of it was Trump-hatred rants.

Here’s a novel idea: Focus on speaking to average Americans and informing them about what you will specifically do to make their daily lives better and not on “waking” them up.
